Deauville

Every year my mum and I go on a little holiday together. We do this already for several years, and it's always lovely to be together and have some quality time. Most of the time, we visit a sunny destination, but we planned to go the Stockholm this year. A few days in the city, and a few days on one of the islands around. But there was Corona to spoil the party, and we decided to look for a destination closer to home - Normandy it was.

Deauville is a pearl on the 'Côte Fleurie,' a decadent chic town in Normandy, about 2.5 hours drive from Paris. This seaside resort has become world-famous as a meeting place for movie stars.

Characteristic of Deauville plage: the colored parasols give this not all too sunny part of France a lively, cheerful feeling.

A few things typical of Deauville: the architecture (did we end up on a chic Disney movie set?) The colored umbrellas on the beach, not to mention the fancy stores, I will name a few: Iro, Sandro, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and I can continue for hours. But also the rocky beaches around are absolutely beautiful. I would say, best of both worlds.

Starting the day at the beach with a coffee and croissant at Bar du Soleil became a habit.

On the left: Child running out of the store with Hemes bags, oh well darling this is where the other half lives.

Pictured above:  the beautiful storefront of  La Maison Deauville , an interior shop close to the beach.

Coffee at Ralphs, overlooking stunning shops around.

From Deauville, you can take the cider route along the old orchard-lined roads in the Pays d'Auge.

The smell of freshly harvested cider apples is so delightful.

Honfleur is about half an hour away and is a cute (more touristic) town. You can eat delicious mussels here along the harbor.

A bit further from Honfleur, you will find Etretat, a beautiful piece of rugged coast with luminous panorama views. You will also find Les Jardins d'Étretat here, an artistic garden on a cliff. An ode to Claude Monet.

Anyway, a few days in Deauville is an absolute must. Since this was not our first time in Deauville, we skipped several significant tourist attractions around such as the Arromanches, war museums, military cemeteries where we had already been before.

Deauville is a perfect starting point for a road trip through Normandy and for Burgundian bon vivant like us, fresh seafood, delicious cheeses, and wines in abundance.

I would say, Bon Voyage!
